This Graduate is Going to ACen

Wed May 6, 2009, 3:56 PM

Various news, like I graduated a couple weeks ago.

I was finally able to buy a new computer, I just don't have my scanner/printer hooked up to it yet or any good software (Photoshop, InDesign, etc).

I need to find a job soon, so I know whether and where I'd move to by the time my lease runs out on July 31st. But for now I'm focused on ACen this weekend. I failed once more to pull off my #21 cosplay, which makes me feel horrible since my friends have costumes for The Monarch, Dr. Girlfriend and Dr. Orpheus. Ugh, hopefully I'll have something by Youmacon. I got flustered with graduating and kept putting off ordering the zentai suit for the costume.

Anyhow, driving to Chicago tomorrow for ACen. My table should be under the name Design Flat (or D-Flat). I'll have signage up.

What do I like most about this new look besides customization of my page? I made a Tiny Journal next to my actual Journal. That way, when I don't feel like updating for three months, I can at least make a smarmy comment about something.

Here is a summary of things since my last post:

- Broke even at Youmacon
- Cut off financially
- Made VP of the Eastern Michigan University chapter of AIGA.
- Finished semester with decent grades
- Smallest Christmas ever for my family
- Got fall-over drunk at a furry party
- Commissioned for the first time ever, of animated icons.
- Commissioned by a web design company's President to make a 3'x4' piece like my Merzbow poster.
- My job of 6 years, at a carpet store that was once partly-owned by my dad, is downsizing. Don't know when I'll lose my job
- Got my student audit, and I need to apply for graduation (woo, in April!)

I'll try and post some more stuff soon, but I need to get a new computer still. Turns out that my hard-drive on my computer just won't spin anymore >__>;

Youmacon - TOMORROW

Thu Oct 30, 2008, 9:17 AM

So Youmacon 08 starts tomorrow. Tonight after class I'm going to go get my badge (yeah, I'm driving 40 minutes there to get my badge, then coming back). I would like to go to our first meeting of our AIGA student chapter tonight at 9, but I don't know if I'll make it back in time. Plus I still need to go print out my prints, and my poster.

Stuff for sale:

-Prints
-Posters
-Stickers*

*My friend Brian made some cool stickers of a poster he did last year, along the lines of "RATED W FOR WASTE OF TIME." However, I don't know if he made more for me to sell. I see him in class in an hour, and then I will have my answer. I was also planning on having shirts, but it looks like that will have to wait until the next con =/ I just didn't have time with all my classes.

I got my business cards in time though, and they look FANTASTIC. See my latest deviation for that. Though the picture doesn't do them justice (sooo smooth).

Well, I left my flash drive with my stuff on it at my apartment, so I need to go back there now before my class at 2:00. Which sucks, because I wanted to print before class. Agh.

Youmacon Incoming

Wed Oct 1, 2008, 9:59 AM

Youmacon is just a couple weeks away. I still have my prints leftover from ACen, but I have more stuff I need to print up. Meanwhile I need to have my final business cards printed up at an offset printer for class in a couple weeks anyhow. So I will have business cards when I'm at the Artist Alley! Awesome. I just don't know where I'm getting them printed yet.

I don't have a cosplay yet. The intention was to be #21 from Venture Bros. But I don't know if any of my friends are going to do anything from the show, and I don't want to half-ass my costume. So I may ask one of my friends for help making it =/ not much time though.

Apparently the con block at the hotel for ACen opens soon. I don't know where I'm going to be in a year though. I hope I have a graphic design internship/job by then, but I don't know where.

I was able to keep my computer working for a while still. But now I can't get it working again. Now the computer I'm looking at is the HP Pavilion TX-2000 laptop made with Wacom technology. Only around $1000. Problem is I would need about $1000 that I do not have. I need to look into getting a special student loan since I need the computer for my major. I was hoping to have enough money left over from my regular student loan to get it, but nay. Not with the economy the way it is right now >=[

Computer Broke'd

Wed Aug 13, 2008, 8:02 AM

I'm updating from my graphics job. My computer at home may have finally kicked the bucket. New problem is that when it starts up, it doesn't find my monitor. So I have to hold down the button to shut it down. Then if I turn off the monitor, then flip the switch on the back of the computer and leave it off for a minute, I can turn it on and it finds the monitor. However, during the booting process it may possibly go to a command screen asking how I want to boot the computer. Whether it does that or not, when I continue on so that the computer starts to boot I encounter the worst problem. It will freeze. At some random point. Sometimes it is when the screen is still blank, sometimes it is at the User login screen. I have even made it to my desktop, and then it freezes. I have no freaking clue as to what is going on. I might have to buy a new computer. My friend Jae is selling his old gaming computer for $400 bucks. There is also a cool laptop called the MSI Wind for $500, but I think I'd prefer to have a new desktop, and then later get a laptop.

Anyhow, don't expect new art anytime soon. Unless I draw it with the tablet here at work. But work piled up while I was up north over the weekend.

Saw Hellboy II last night. It was good, but nothing compared to Dark Knight.

8 FACTS ABOUT ME:
-----------------------------

1- I have wanted to be a cartoonist since I was 5 or 6.

2- I enjoy graphic design, and will probably end up with that as my career.

3- I'm very self conscious about everything, and remember embarrassing moments from years ago =/

4- My favorite anime is Robotech, but I have to admit I've never seen the original 3 series that Harmony Gold combined to make it (Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada).

5- Final Fantasy IV (originally II on the SNES in America) was the game that got me into RPGs as a kid. I now own the game on four different systems. I also owe my reading skills at a young age to that game, lol.

6- I've played a lot of MMORPGs, and am currently playing FFXI on my XBox 360 (though I haven't logged on in a month because of apartment and room mate switching stuff).

7- The first anime convention I went to was Otakon 2004. That was an... interesting experience.

8- I go to the Necto night club in Ann Arbor, MI on Mondays, which is Factory Monday (or more commonly referred to as Goth Night).
